Pokémon Rumours I Believed!

The Pokémon franchise was a big part of my childhood. It was the first anime series I ever watched, my first JRPG, and many more firsts.

The first generation of Pokémon had, a lot, of mysteries surrounding it, which lead to some interesting rumours. The internet wasn’t as widely available during this time, so we couldn’t fact-check everything easily.

In todays post, I’ll be sharing rumours I thought were true!

Mew Is Under The Truck!

A classic. Pokémon: The First Movie introduced us to Mew. Making this the 151st Pokémon, how times have changed!

Mew was ever present in the movies advertising, and it had a lot of us wondering, was Mew a super secret Pokémon in the original games that we had missed?

All sorts of rumours came out of the woodwork claiming to be the method in which Mew was obtained, but I remember the truck being the most common rumour I heard. Why else was the truck there? You had to go out of your way to find it, so Mew had to be there?

Alas, it was a hoax. It was just a static sprite. The only legitimate way to obtain Mew was via an event.

Bill’s Secret Garden!

We were really simple souls back then, weren’t we? We saw an empty space that we couldn’t enter, and just assumed something magic had to be lurking there!

What could be in the secret garden? The starters we couldn’t catch? Rare Pokémon? Pokegods? There just had to be something there.

In reality, it was just an empty space behind the house. If you did manage to clip through to the spot, you’d find nothing of value. If you went too far out of bounds, the game would lock up.

So disappointing!

MissingNo Is A PokeGod!

I could write an entire post about the alleged “PokeGods”, but for simplicity sake, I’ll share this link.

MissingNo was an enigma of the first generation. We didn’t know what it was at first. Was it a Pokémon? Was it an incredibly rare Pokémon?

It had a strange typing not found in any other Pokémon, it was a bird type. That had to mean something, right? I heard it would evolve into something powerful. A PokeGod!

It was just a glitch. A glitch capable of doing some interesting things, but not a rare godlike entity.

Did you believe any of these? Or did you hear something different?

And on that note, thank you for reading my post!
