Horror That Genuinely Terrified Me!

It goes without saying that horror is my favourite movie genre. After a while, however, you tend to see a good percentage of twists coming, and you almost feel as if you’re desensitised to gore.
Every so often, I find myself taken a back by some movies that leave me feeling unsettled.

In this post, I’ll be sharing three horror movies that left me feeling uneasy.
Don’t worry, this post will be spoiler-free.

Terrifier (2016)

I am not afraid of clowns, but Art? Absolutely terrified. Pun intended.
His presence, his appearance, and his mannerisms extrude terror. The movie begins unsettling and the horror ramps up from there.

There is one particular scene that made me feel nauseous; it’s the reason that I am beyond apprehensive to watch the recently released sequel.
I believe it’s worth watching, but you should be prepared for the uneasiness that follows.

The Thing (1982)

My greatest fear in life is losing any sense of my consciousness, namely losing my control of it.
The Thing only emphasised that fear.
The idea of assimilation and having zero control over any aspect of myself made viewing the movie uncomfortable.

Also, watching the tensions between the characters grow was unsettling.
The Thing is criminally underrated in the world of horror, and even people who are not typically fans of the genre should give it a viewing at least once.

The Strangers (2008)

I have had numerous nightmares about home invasions at varying times in my life. My home is my safe space; my retreat from the outside world.
The idea of someone violating my space fills me with dread. When I’ve been on holiday in caravans, or a barge boat, I often feel paranoid about something breaking in.

This movie is terrifying. The home invaders chose to attack their victims because they were home. No reason other than that.
There’s nothing they can do. They’re in an isolated place with dangerous people.

Even thinking about this as I’m writing gave me a horrible chill.

Are there any horror movies that scared you?
If so, what movies?
