For this post, I’m experimenting with an idea I’ve had in the back of my head for a while.
We all have a certain piece of media that means something to us, so, today I’ll be talking about a song that holds a special place in my heart.
I lost my Nan to cancer in early 2015. She was a big fan of Jim Reeves, and I remember my Uncle sharing a story where’d he’d come from school, and my Nan would be in the kitchen, listening to artists such as Jim Reeves and Dean Martin on her radiogram.
The song Distant Drums was played at her funeral, and it used to pain me because I used to associate anything related to her as painful. I didn’t take her passing well, 2015 was just a terrible year all round.
I’m now able to listen to the song without crying, and it’s become a comfort for me. It reminds me of her, and I can think of her without becoming upset.
I’ve been wanting to get some lyrics from the song tattooed as a tribute to her, an idea she’d hate, but it’ll help me.
Do you have a song that means a lot to you?
