Back 4 Blood is an upcoming multiplayer first person shooter developed by Turtle Rock Studios and published by Warner Bros Interactive Studios.
The title was created by the creators of the first Left 4 Dead game, and feels like a spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series.
I was an avid fan of the Left 4 Dead games on the Xbox 360, so I was excited when this title was announced. There hasn’t been any console content for the games, so having a game made in the same vein being released by the original creators caught my attention immediately.
I played the BETA on the Xbox One!
It goes without saying that this is a visual improvement over Left 4 Dead. The detail that has gone into the environments is incredible. It holds your immersion well.
The games monsters, known as the ridden, look great. You can see the decay that has set in on them, and they look terrifying. I felt quite uneasy when I’d get swarmed by hordes.
The idiom “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, is appropriate when it comes to the gameplay. The game plays and feels like the Left 4 Dead titles, which isn’t a bad thing. It feels smooth, responsive and has carried over the exciting gameplay associated with this genre of gaming.
The game was challenging but enjoyable. There are special kinds of ridden that make it more exciting. As shown in the screenshot above, I was caught and attacked by a ridden known as a sleeper.
I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings, and the game punished me for it. My character was pounced on by the creature. They are terrifying and can catch you off-guard if you don’t look out for them.
They can be dealt with while they are in their dormant state if you spot them before they jump out at your player.
I enjoyed the time I spent with the BETA for the game, and I eagerly await the full release of the game!
