Sunshine Blogger Award!

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. It was nice to see the nomination from Stephen over at Honest Gamer!

I really enjoyed answered the questions he presented to me and his answers can be found here!

If you could have a new entry from your favourite video game franchise, but in a new genre, what would it be?

I’d like to see an open world Sonic the Hedgehog title. I think a more open version of Sonic Adventure would be great, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) expanded on this a little, but the worlds were baron, and the less said about that title, the better.

What video game crossover would you love to see happen?

My dream crossover has already happened to an extent, but not in the genre I would’ve preferred. Mario and Sonic have crossed paths in a party game, but I’d like to see a game where they have to survive in each other’s worlds, I’m sure Sega and Nintendo could make this work.

What platform did you start gaming on?

My grandfather bought a SNES from someone in a pub in 1995, I’m not sure why he did this, but it was given to me as a gift.
That’s the point I started gaming, I’d play games with my father back then though since I was 4 years old.

There is often talk about difficulty vs accessibility in video games. Do you think that developers should have to include difficulty settings in their games?

I believe that the difficulty of a game should be down to the developer’s discretion, it is their work after all. Games were difficult back in the days of rental shp[s because developers didn’t want them to be beaten throughout a weekend. Game cartridges had less space than what we’re accustomed to now. Those games tend to have had to save features added now, so you can get through those games.

Games such as the Darksouls, Bloodbourne and Cuphead are designed with difficulty in mind. They are designed for the player to experiment with trial and error. It’s about working out what works best over time and then moving on to a tougher challenge.
The games are beatable, it just won’t be easy for you.

Maybe I just see inclusivity differently, but I don’t think a developer should include a difficulty slider if they haven’t designed it that way.

Which legendary video game franchise do you think has the better music, The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy?

I have more experience with Zelda titles than Final Fantasy titles, but I can say for sure that Zelda has some memorable music, especially it’s theme music. So good.

What popular video game, movie or book series could you not get into?

I don’t understand the hype around Star Wars, I don’t. I’ve watched the majority of them and I liked them, but I don’t think they are the masterpieces people have told me they are.

I just prefer other works in the genre.

Serious question now….dogs or cats?

Left: Simba – My parents’ cat.
Right: Cleo. – Ben’s mothers dog.

Honestly, I adore them both for different reasons. Cats are more independent and can be on their own throughout the day. Dogs are more loving and I’ve loved walking Cleo.

I have guinea pigs right now, so I can’t have my cat or dog in the flat. One day though!

What three indie games do you recommend and why?

Cymru am byth!

I’m going to suggest 3 games from Wales Interactive, I’ve enjoyed the titles I have played and I’m a fan of supporting local businesses.

Buy these games and tell Wales Interactive Stacey sent you!

  • The Bunker!
  • Maid of Sker
  • Simulacra

What do video games mean to you?

Video games have been a big part of my life since I was 5, I’m 30 this year. 25 years of a hobby that has become what I write about, saved me from myself during bad times and a topic I am genuinely passionate about.
I can’t see myself not gaming unless the ability to is physically taken away from me.

Those were some interesting questions. Here are some bloggers I nominate!
I’m not sure who has done it or not, but I hope you enjoy it anyway!

The questions!

  • If you could re-experience any form of media again for the first time, what would you choose?
  • What piece of media is your guilty pleasure?
  • If you could revive a dormant piece of media, what would you choose?
  • Star Wars or Star Trek?
  • In the cases of problematic creators, should their work be separated from their actions.

Thank you for your time. I appreciate you being here!

  1. These were great answers. Definitely agree with you about difficulty. Games like Dark Souls are built around the challenge, that’s why people play them. Making an easy mode would defeat the point of the entire game.

I like Star Wars, but I’ve always much preferred the tv shows that have been made, like The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars.

Thanks for taking the time to respond ☺️
