Surviving Winter Lockdown!

At the time of this post, the UK is back in lockdown.
This isn’t an ideal time mentally for many, at least with the summer lockdown you could sit outside in the sun.

The winter period is colder and gets darker much quicker, so you can only imagine how this can impact seasonal depression.
I’m here to share what’s helping me cope.

I know from experience that if you don’t get enough sleep, your mind will turn against you even more.
If you can, avoid taking naps during the day so that you’re a little more tired at bedtime.

I’m a big fan of the podcast below and I’m planning on dedicating a post to it pretty soon!

try to stay present!

The first time I had this advice suggested to me I pretty much scoffed at the idea.
How will being present change how I’m feeling?
To my surprise, it helped!
I found making myself a cup of tea and noticing how the cup felt in my mind calmed me down a bit.
Noticing how warm it was, how it tasted, things like that can be relaxing.

take advantage of technology to keep in touch!

The internet can be a wonderful thing, there are various apps, forums and social media groups where you can find people to talk to if you’re not on good terms with your family.

I haven’t seen my friends since 2019 thanks to the lockdowns, but I am in daily contact with them via messaging apps.
I’ve even had appointments over the phone and via webcam!
