Mental Health Monday’s: Perfectionism Meets Depression

This post is pretty much a last minute thing. I have been bugging myself all week about wanting to perfect all the things that I do, without accepting that I am human and mistakes are a part of learning.

Depression is hard enough, it can feel even worse when you feel like you have to perfect all that you do. I made carbonara for dinner yesterday for Ben and I. It drove me mad constantly asking myself “am I doing this right?”, “why doesn’t it look the way I expect it to look?”. You know what happened? It turned out okay.

I wish I’d heard these words a lot sooner in my life, you do not need to be “good” at anything straight away. Sure, there will be people who just adapt to things straight away, but you don’t need to compare yourselves to that.

The famous chefs you see on TV learned their craft. The famous athletes train daily. The famous authors, the famous artists, actors, comedians? The exact same, time and practice has gone into these crafts.

If you feel like you need help, ask for it! Don’t be afraid of being judged! If a person judges you, they obviously aren’t worth your time anyway.
