Games I Played As A Child: Aladdin (Sega Mega Drive/Genesis)

I will start this post by saying I have never played the SNES version of this game. So I won’t be comparing the two and debating which is better. If I do compare the two games it’s only based on the very little I know and have seen of the gameplay from the SNES game!

My father bought a Sega Megadrive, or Genesis depending on where you’re from, not too long after I was given a SNES by my grandfather. I had a good set of games for the console, the Sonic games, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe were favourites. I also had games like Alissia Dragoon, The Lion King and Aladdin.  I had quite the variety of games growing up.

Aladdin is my favourite Disney movie, so I was thrilled to have a game I could play with him.
As far as I can tell, the Sega Megadrive/Genesis version has sprites based on the movie and the music is the movie soundtrack.
The soundtrack sounds pretty good given the quality the system is known for.  The sprite work is also fantastic.

I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m was very young playing it but I always found it rather difficult, especially the cave of wonders stage and the bit where you’re on the magic carpet. I remember losing a lot of lives and getting frustrated there!

It was such a fun game, despite what I mentioned about the stage that irritated me, I’m chalking that one up not just me being a kid! It’s worth playing at least once.
